Celebrating 40 Years

This month we celebrate 40 years in business. On 16th February in 1972 Alfred J Wells and two of his sons Alistair and John established the company. Working out of a shed in the village of Niton on the Isle of Wight, the family started out as agricultural engineers then moved into producing ironwork ware and then wood burning stoves. The business grew, more people joined, more family joined, and the company soon moved to a larger premises in Newport. Over the years we have invested heavily in state of the art machinery enabling us to stay at the forefront of wood-burning technology. In the late 80s we installed a vitreous enamelling facility to bring yet more of our manufacturing processes in-house.

With British design, manufacture and innovation at it's heart our business is still based on the Isle of Wight and still family run. We sell thousands of wood burning stoves and accessories across the globe. Our vitreous enamelling plant has become a business in its own right and we now design, produce and install iconic signage and cladding throughout Europe - including much of the signage for London Underground.
