Our Royal Appointment

HRH Prince PhilipThe Duke of Edinburgh today (13 August) visited A.J Wells & Sons.

Starting with a tour of the Charnwood stove manufacturing facility and vitreous enamelling plant he was shown the processes involved in making a woodburning stove followed by the making of an enamelled sign.

Visiting our mock London Underground tunnel the tour finished in our studio where he was introduced to the Wells family, the apprentices, longstanding employees, international sales representatives and some of the design team. He also viewed some of our Cambodian fair trade fireside accessories www.bodj.co.uk that are sold alongside the stoves.

The visit coincided with our 40 year celebrations. HRH The Duke of Edinburgh unveiled a plaque commemorating the visit and was then presented with a bottle of ‘Slow Burner’ ale – a beer that was brewed for us by Island brewers Yates to celebrate the company’s 40 years in business.
